The East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) was announced as an official Partner of the World Migratory Bird Day campaign during the 11th Meeting of Partners (MOP11) of the EAAFP which ended in Brisbane, Australia today. The new Partnership unites efforts to raise awareness to conserve migratory birds globally.

The EAAFP 11th Meeting of Partners (MOP11) held in Brisbane, Australia, on 17 March, 2023 ended with the adoption of 11 Decisions, the election and appointment of new Management Committee, and the announcement of EAAFP as official partner to World Migratory Bird Day.

Press Released 13 March 2023 - Opening Ceremony

On 13th March, the 11th Meeting of Partners (MOP11) of the East - Australasian Asian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) officially kicked off in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, under the theme “We are all part of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway!”. Co-hosted by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Australian Government and BirdLife Australia, the meeting brought together over 150 participants from 18 national governments, inter-government organizations, international NGOs, site managers, experts and corporates. The delegates will lead discussion on the eleventh key Draft Decisions organize to find a solution and better direction to conserve migratory waterbirds, their habitats and livelihoods in the Flyway.

Press Released 8 FEB 2023- Notification to  partners of MOP12

The EAAFP Secretariat hereby requests expressions of interest for hosting the EAAFP 12th Meeting of Partners (MOP12) tentatively proposed for early 2025. Since 2006, A total of ten MOPs have been hosted by seven Government Partners (Indonesia, People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, Cambodia, the U.S.A., Japan, and Singapore), with an increase in Partners, Working Groups, Task Forces, and observers at each event. MOP11 will occur this year from the 12 -17th of March in Brisbane, Australia. To assist with the proactive planning, the Secretariat now seeks a National Government Partner to host MOP12.

Press Release 24 FEB 2022 - 4th Notification to Partners of MOP 11

With regards to the continuing COVID-19 global pandemic situation, international travel measures and restrictions imposed in many Partner countries, the Australian Government and BirdLife Australia have proposed revised dates regarding the hosting of MoP11 to the 12th -17th March, 2023 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The EAAFP Management Committee has accepted the generous hosting offer from the Australian co-hosts.

Press Release 28 OCT 2020 - 3rd Notification To Partners of MOP 11

Following communication with the Australian Government and discussions at the EAAFP Management Committee meeting held last week, regarding the timing of EAAFP 11th Meeting of Partners (MoP11), the following decision has been taken: Due to the ongoing restrictions on international travels, caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, EAAFP MoP11 will be postponed for 12 months. The Secretariat will confirm MoP11 arrangements (including the new timeline for documents) once the specific meeting dates are finalized by our hosts – the Australian Government and BirdLife Australia.

World Migratory Bird Day highlights both the fragile wonder of bird migration and the critical importance of local environmental action to protect habitats and reduce the threat of plastics. The Morrison Government, in partnership with Birdlife Australia, can today announce it will bring together 18 national governments, intergovernmental organisations and the international business sector to address the most pressing threats to migratory waterbirds and their habitats at the 11th Meeting of Partners of the East Asian – Australasian Flyway Partnership in Brisbane in March 2021.
