The Wilson Ornithological Society (WOS) offers four types of research awards to fund avian research anywhere in the world. Applicants must be current WOS members or willing to become a member of the society. The four categories are as follows: (1) Louis Agassiz Fuertes Grants are open to all ornithologists, but preference is given to graduate students and young professionals. Up to two awards of $5,000 are provided for any avian research. (2) George A. Hall / Harold F. Mayfield Grant is restricted to independent researchers, such as nonprofessionals and high school students. Up to one award of $2,000 is given for any avian research. (3) Wilson Ornithological Society Research Grants are open to all ornithologists, but two awards are given to master students. Up to four awards of $3,000 are provided for any avian research. (4) Paul A. Stewart Grants are open to all ornithologists, but preference is given to studies of bird movements or economic ornithology. Up to four awards of $2,000 are given.
