IBRRI 4th Annual Meeting to share future opportunities for strengthening wetland ecosystems in the Indo-Burma Region

The EAAFP Secretariat participated in the Fourth Annual Meeting of Indo-Burma Ramsar Regional Initiative (IBRRI) virtually held on 18 February 2021. The aims were for the IBRRI parties to share the past events and to discuss potential future opportunities for strengthening wetland ecosystem services in the Indo-Burma region. Representatives from governments, academia, NGOs, and Ramsar International Organization Partners (IOPs) joined the meeting. A work plan for the Ramsar Regional Initiative was also developed which will be implemented in the coming year.

The meeting convened decision-makers and practitioners working on Ramsar sites and other wetlands in countries of the region. During the meeting, EAAFP and other National Ramsar Focal Points shared the work or progress made in implementing the 2020 IBRRI work plan. EAAFP Secretariat and ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) introduced potential future opportunities, including the new initiative in discussion with Asian Development Bank and ASEAN Flyway Initiative Phase II. EAAFP Partners and collaborators such as Cambodia Ministry of Environment, Wildfowl & Wetland Trust, Flora & Fauna International and Biodiversity and Nature Conservation Association (BANCA) Myanmar presentation on implantation work on designation of protected area, research & monitoring, and advocacy.

IBRRI concluded the meeting by introducing the 16 selected small grant projects on Ecosystem-based Adaptation in wetlands.
