On 28th November, the EAAFP Secretariat organized a year-end appreciation event to share the achievements made in 2019 and present the forward-looking direction for next year with a wide range of supporters. Approximately 100 people from the government of Korea, diplomatic community, corporates, international organizations, universities and civil society organizations gathered at Holiday Inn, Incheon, Ro Korea for the celebration.

The event began with the opening remarks given by Mr. Hyeon Baig, the Director General of Environment Greenery Bureau, Incheon Metropolitan City made a congratulatory remark. “Recently, there were significant ongoing efforts to conserve migratory waterbirds by designating EAAFP Flyway Network Sites domestically and twinning the EAAFP sister site between Incheon Songdo Tidal Flat and Hong Kong Maipo Inner Deep Bay. We will do our best to be a contributor of EAAFP and to support and cooperate for actively ongoing activities in Republic of Korea.”

Mr. Doug Watkins, Chief Executive of EAAFP thanked the support from the partners and participants and delivered a presentation to highlight the work and achievement that were delivered by EAAFP and its partners over the year. He also introduced the directions for 2020 and looked forward to having more cooperation.

Following that was the Recognition Ceremony for the EAAFP corporate sponsors, Korea South-East Power Co. (KOEN) and Sony Asia Pacific to appreciate their contribution to support activities in the East Asian-Australasian Flyway through awareness raising and education. KOEN had supported the organization of public events 2019 World Migratory Bird Day supporting environment NGOs in Incheon-Gyeonggi region, and producing education posters of key species. Sony Asia Pacific had supported Hong Kong Bird Marathon, Bird Walks in Thailand, as well as the EAAFP Waterbirds Photo Contest.

After that, Ms. Yoon Lee, External Relations Manager of EAAFP, gave a presentation on the opportunities for the corporate sector to partner with the EAAFP in the East Asian-Australasian region.

2019 동아시아–대양주 철새이동경로 파트너십 (EAAFP) 네트워킹 리셉션 개최
동아시아-대양주 철새이동경로 파트너십 (EAAFP) 사무국은 오는 28일 인천 송도 홀리데이인 호텔에서 네트워킹 리셉션을 진행하였다. 이번 행사에서 EAAFP 사무국은 2019년 한 해 동안 이루어낸 성과를 발표하고, 다양한 후원자들과 함께할 2020년도의 주요 사업 계획을 알렸다. 행사에는 정부 관계자와 대사관, 국제 기구, 대학, 시민단체 등 다양한 기관에서 100여명이 참석했다.
인천시 환경국 백현 국장은 환영사를 통해 “최근 국내 외에서 동아시아-대양주 철새이동경로 네트워크 사이트가 지속적으로 등재되고, 어제는 인천 송도갯벌과 홍콩 마이포 습지가 자매서식지로 협약을 체결하기도 했습니다. EAAFP 사무국이 한국에서 지속적인 활동을 진행할 수 있도록 인천시에서 지원과 협력을 아끼지 않겠습니다.”고 전했다.
더그 왓킨슨 EAAFP 사무국 신임 대표는 파트너를 비롯한 참가자들에게 감사를 표하며, 한 해 동안 파트너들과 함께 사무국 성과와 2020년도 주요 사업 내용을 소개하였다. 그는 향후 파트너들의 적극적인 협조를 부탁하며, 앞으로의 방향성을 발표하였다.
이어 한국남동발전 영흥발전본부와 아시아-퍼시픽 SONY를 비롯한 EAAFP 파트너 기업에 감사패 전달식이 진행되었다. EAAFP의 기업 파트너들은 동아시아-대양주 철새이동경로의 다양한 국가에서 인식 증진 및 교육 활동을 지원한 바 있다. 특히 한국남동발전(KOEN)은 2018년 EAAFP 사무국과 MOU를 체결한 이래, 인천 지역의 철새 및 서식지 보전을 위해 다양한 활동을 후원하였다. 대표적으로 세계 철새의 날 기념 시민강연 행사, 인천-경기만의 새 포스터 제작, 인천 겨울철새 자연학교 등을 후원하였다. 그밖에 SONY 역시 홍콩 버드 마라톤, 태국 탐조 행사, EAAFP 철새 사진 콘테스트 등을 지원하였다. 이를 바탕으로 EAAFP 사무국 대외관계협력 이윤경 매니저는 동아시아-대양주 철새이동경로 파트너십 사무국과 기업의 파트너 협력 기회에 대해 발표했다.
