“It is always sad to leave the place where I had lots of great memories. And it’s harder when it provided me unexpected challenges, learning experiences, and supportive colleagues. After a 9-month journey in EAAFP finished, I can now assure that it has been a stepping- stone to recognize my strength and weakness and develop the skills. Also, I can see what it is like to work for an international organization, especially in the responsibilities of external relations and communications, which I’ve always been curious about since I studied in Global Affairs and Communication.

As an External Relations & Foundation Assistant, I had an opportunity to work with both departments. I was involved in engagement and outreach projects which aim to achieve the conservation of migratory waterbirds, its habitats, and people. Although the angles to approach the project were various, I felt the passion and aspiration of the Secretariat and Foundation trying to achieve the main objectives. Moreover, by supporting Board meetings, Financial Sub-Committee meetings, and internal & external meetings, I got practical knowledge about how different parties cooperate to achieve the common goal of protecting the environment and biodiversity.

Also, I worked on various communication projects, which I truly enjoyed. Since the EAAFP Foundation was just established, it was an important moment to promote the Foundation. In this vein, I had a chance to coordinate the initial promotions through e-newsletter, interview series, blog, social media, shooting, and PT event. With the Foundation Team, I’ve also involved in launching the new Foundation website. Through this experience, I gained practical communication skills such as contacting different people, drafting and pitching concept notes, analyzing raw data, designing, and writing articles. The valuable moments were not just made from improved analytic results or growth in number of audiences, but also from warm messages and encouragement during the whole process.

The 9-month work in EAAFP was full of learning experiences. It has broadened my perspectives on international governance, environmental issues, and conservation efforts. Also thanks to the warm and supportive colleagues, especially our team, I could be more passionate about all the works that I was involved in. It was my pleasure to contribute to the objectives that EAAFP is pursuing, and I will always support your future works.”
