Event Title:

Celebration of WMBD 2021 through awareness campaign, online discussion and developing promotional materials for bird conservation

Organizer:

Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University in collaboration with SAUSC, BBCF and local Forest Division, Proborton Foundation and Muktir Bondhon Foundation (NGO).

Location: Dhaka and Bagura, Bangladesh

Participants:

  1. Awareness campaign:

Animated movie and documentary on migratory birds of Bangladesh watching: 50 underprivileged childrens.

Leaflet distribution: About 3000 community people

  1. Online discussion:
    (i) Direct Participants (in ZOOM and Facebook Live)- About 300 peoples from different districts of Bangladesh

(ii) Total watch: More than 1000

Types of participants: Students from universities, colleges, school and madrasha, community people, civil society representatives, NGO representative, birds hunters, Forest Department officials, researchers and policy makers etc.

Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University Science Club organized an awareness program on the conservation of migratory birds and other standard issues with underprivileged children at a school managed by the Proborton Foundation at Mirpur in the capital city, Dhaka, Bangladesh. The event featured an awareness-raising animated movie and a documentary on migratory birds of Bangladesh. A session was also taken to train how to draw birds. Latterly, a bird drawing competition was organized for the children. The first three participants were awarded with special gift boxes and each participant were given a color pencil, drawing material and food as a consolation prize. Leaflets and flyers were also distributed among the children and community people in the area to raise awareness about migratory birds and its impact on environment and conservation. It is noted that the event was completed in collaboration with East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP), Bangladesh Biodiversity Conservation Federation (BBCF), Muktir Bondhon Foundation (NGO) and Promotion Foundation.

Outcome:

  1. We are able to raise awareness among university and college, school and madrash students and community people through arranging effective digital art competition and developing educative and promotional materials like video, poster, flyer and leaflets on conservation of birds.
  2. We are able to focus policy makers and government agencies to encourage work together in conservation of birds, implementation of laws.
