World Migratory Bird Day 2021 event in Russia

Organizer:

Omsk Regional Youth Public Organization «Ecological Watch of Siberia», Omsk Branch of the Union for the Conservation of Birds of Russia and other stakeholders.

Participants:

On May 8, 2021, the event «World Migratory Bird Day 2021» was held on the Specially Protected Natural Territory Natural Park «Bird Harbor» in the сenter Omsk (Russia) for 380 participants from 9:00 to 20:00 for 6 different groups due to the Covid-19 protection. This included 20 members of the Omsk Regional Youth Public Organization, approximately 100 school children, 50 professional painters, 5 governmental officers, and 150 people of NGOs.

Summary:

For the first time in the center of the city of Omsk on a specially protected natural area of the natural park «Bird Harbor» our event WMBD «Omsk oblast is the center of migratory routes of birds of Eurasia» to the development of love for migratory birds of Russia was held. The organizer was Omsk Regional Youth Public Organization «Ecological Watch of Siberia». More then 380 children, school students, teachers or parents, university students, birdwatchers and citizens of the Omsk oblast received their first lesson in democratic participation in bird watching of their native land.

On May 8, 2021, in the nature park “Bird Harbor” in the center of Omsk from 9:00 to 20:00, six excursions were held for six groups of participants (60 people each) during the event “World Migratory Bird Day 2021”. Irina Shvidko, a qualified guide, head of the scientific research department of the «Bird Harbor» natural park, conducted the report on migratory birds in Siberia. For six groups of participants in the action, bird monitoring was carried out from the observation tower of the Mayak park at a height of 15 meters. After the completion of each excursion, we organized a lunch for each group of participants of the six excursions. Snakcs migratory birds day and exhibition of creature works festival, seminar and discussion season. After lunch, a blitz-festival was held for each group on the seminar with a discussion of research work. At this time, a migratory  gull was released, which was undergoing rehabilitation in the hospital of the nature park.

Bloggers, representatives of all types of media and other environmental NGOs also attended the ceremony of our release of the migratory bird, which will fly in the fall for the winter to India on the coast of the Arabian Sea. At the end of the festival, participants received gifts in the form of four different booklets with the logos East Asian – Australasian Flyway (EAAFP) and World Migratory Bird Day 2021 (WMBD). Our published booklets contain popular science essays on rare migratory birds in Siberia: Siberian Crane, Eurasian Curlew, Whimbrel, Slender-billed Curlew, Dalmatian Pelican, White Pelican, Pied Avocet, Great White Egret, Mute Swan, Whooper Swan and Red-breasted Goose.

Outcome:

«Omsk oblast is the center of migratory routes of birds of Eurasia» was highly appreciated by the Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Omsk oblast and many citizens of the Russian Federation.

For the first time in the center of the city of Omsk on a specially protected natural area of the natural park «Bird Harbor» the event dedicated to the development of love for migratory birds of Russia was held. Children, schoolchildren, students and citizens of the Omsk region received their first lesson in democratic participation in bird watching of their native land.
