Rare spoon-billed sandpipers return to Gulf of Mottama

Biodiversity and Nature Conservation Association (BANCA) said the number of critically endangered Spoon-billed Sandpipers that migrate to the Gulf of Mottama in Myanmar, which is the 117th Flyway Site Network of EAAFP, has more than doubled over the past five years, from 74 in 2010 to 155 this year thanks to efforts of local people to raise awareness about conservation of migratory birds and their habitats and persuade hunters not to kill the birds.
