Every autumn, the Bar-tailed Godwit takes an amazing nine-day nonstop journey from Alaska to New Zealand, traveling nearly the entire length of the Pacific Ocean. In preparation for the flight, the birds fatten to 600 grams, about twice normal body weight. Each spring, the bird turns around and makes the 11,000-kilometer journey back to Alaska. Watch this video to learn more about this incredible and increasingly vulnerable bird.
