Summary

  • Number of Flyway Network Sites: 32

Japan has been a Partner since 2006 and to date houses 32 Flyway Network Sites, designated under the specifications set by EAAFP. Japan’s importance for Key Species of EAAFP includes breeding habitat for Black-faced Spoonbill, a large number of Crane species as well as staging for many other migrating waterbirds. There is a very active community working to support migratory waterbirds in Japan. Particular activity is noted for Anatidae (ducks, geese and swans) and Crane.

Kushiro, Hokkaido, in the wintry North of Japan, hosted the Eighth Meeting of Partners, in January 2015. Read the report here.
