On 20 September, with the theme of ‘Welcome to Incheon – City of Migratory Birds’, EAAFP Secretariat participated in the Green Culture Festival (GCF) in Incheon, South Korea. GCF was held by the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority to promote eco-friendly ways of living to the citizens and the visitors to the Asian Games, held in Incheon this year.

EAAFP Secretariat held a photo exhibition of migratory waterbirds, in a specially provided booth, to introduce diverse migrant visitors to Incheon City. The booth was visited by lots of local couples taking a walk in the lovely autumn weather. Some said they were impressed by the beautiful colours of birds and by interesting features of shorebirds. Some took our brochure about waterbirds that visit Incheon to learn more about their local bird life.

The Secretariat also had an activity booth with colouring and mosaic art making, to help raise awareness of the importance of migratory waterbirds conservation. In addition to colouring of waterbirds, which has proved the most popular activity among children in the local events EAAFP Secretariat has participated in, the mosaic art of the Spoon-billed Sandpiper was also loved especially by family visitors. Participants chose a mosaic sheet, which consists a part of a big poster divided into 25 parts, looked for similar colours and patterns among used coloured paper and magazines, then covered the poster sheet with the torn papers.

Relevant movies and a short explanation about the conservation activities of EAAFP were also provided. It is estimated that around 200 visitors came to the booth.

As well as EAAFP, the event featured many eco-friendly campaigns by local NGO and conservation groups, with shows and activities such as eco-bag colouring and cardboard craft.
