EAAFP Side Event at CBD meeting in Nagoya, Japan

On 21 October 2010, during the 10th Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, a side event “Responding to the biodiversity challenge of the East Asian – Australasian Flyway (EAAF)” was hosted by the Ministry of the Environment Japan and attended by more than 100 participants. To promote greater understanding of the EAAF Partnership, presentations were delivered on global and regional flyways, waterbird migration, the history and activities of the Partnership and Flyway Site Network activities in Japan. The significant challenges faced in conserving migratory waterbirds and their habitats in this flyway were strikingly illustrated by a set of six banner-posters featuring threatened waterbird species and actions underway to secure their populations. Wetlands International’s new publication, ‘State of the World’s Waterbirds 2010’ was officially launched.
