Black-faced Spoonbill’s Birthday Party, Incheon, South Korea

The ‘Black-faced Spoonbill’s Birthday Party’ was held on June 7, 2014 by local NGO, the Incheon Black-faced Spoonbill Network, with the participation of around 70 people at Namdong Reservoir, Incheon, South Korea. The aim of the party was to enhance awareness for Incheon citizens, school students and their families about the importance of protecting the reservoir and Gojan tidal flat, important habitat of the Black-faced Spoonbill in Incheon. The event was very successful.

The party started with an ocarina song played by one of the student participants and was followed by short lectures, bird watching, and other various creative activities such as drawing competition, treasure hunt game, and the demonstration of the innovative environmental friendly electricity generator, using cycle-pedaling to produce tomato juice for the participants. From EAAFP, Mr. Spike Millington, the Chief Executive of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership, and several staffs joined. During the closing, the Deputy Director of EAAFP, Mr. Jong-Ok Jang, gave a speech endorsing the ‘birthday party’ as a valuable event for encouraging local people and their families to learn about and participate in environment protection for the benefit of Black-faced Spoonbills and their habitats.
