YSFAC X EAAFP PROJECT 2022 Bird Meets Arts 5th Education Program

On August 4th, the fifth event of 2022 <Bird Meets Arts> ‘Imaginary Monster’ was successfully concluded.

A cooperative project between the EAAFP Foundation and the Yeonsu Foundation for Arts and Culture (YSFAC), <Bird Meets Arts> aims to promote the importance of migratory waterbirds and habitat conservation and the potential of ecological arts through culture and art. The 2022 <Bird Meets Arts>, planned as a series of exhibition, education, and workshop, has completed five educational programs so far. Mr. Yang Kura’s Black-faced Spoonbill sculptures made with marine debris and driftwood will be displayed at the Ecological Education Center in Bird Morning Park in Songdo from August 4 to August 26.

This fifth educational program was held at the Ecological Education Center in Bird Morning Park in Incheon with the subtitle ‘Imaginary Monster.’ Participants first watched Mr. Yang Kura’s exhibition on Black-faced Spoonbills on the second floor of the center. After that, Mr. Yang Kura helped them understand the fifth program ‘Imaginary Monster’ by explaining his artwork and marine debris.

Participants created their own ‘Imaginary monsters’ out of driftwood and marine debris. EAAFP Secretariat staff members also joined in the creation of the monsters. Afterwards, participants took turns explaining the monster they had created and expressed that the program helped raise the importance of the seriousness of marine debris and of human interest and efforts to reduce marine debris.

Join the sixth educational program ‘Imaginary Monster’

The sixth educational program ‘Imaginary Monster’, which will take place at the Ecological Educational Center in Bird Morning Park in Incheon on August 11, will be conducted with the same content as the fifth event. The ‘Imaginary monsters’ created at the fifth and sixth events will be exhibited along with Mr. Yang Kura’s works in the 1st and 2nd <Bird Meets Arts> exhibitions.

About <Bird Meets Arts> 

<Bird Meets Arts> is a cooperative project between YSFAC (Yeonsu Foundation for Arts and Culture) and EAAFP (East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership) Foundation. Starting in 2021, <Bird Meets Arts> aims to raise awareness for the importance of migratory waterbirds and their habitats among the general public through creative culture and art activities. The 2021 <Bird Meets Arts> project produced 14 videos with six themes: “Ep1. Migratory waterbirds”, “Ep2. Wetlands”, “Ep3. History”, “Ep4. llustration and CEPA”, “Ep5. Youth“ and “Ep6. Music” in Korean and English respectively.

The 2022 <Bird Meets Arts> project is inviting Korean artist, ’Yang Kura’ to lead a participatory installation of artworks. The project consists of an exhibition and various education programs, kicking off with the first lecture on 18th May, followed by a second program with plogging on 11th June, a third program with dancing on 18th June, and the fourth program with music on 25th June.
