2021 ICLC Global Citizen lifelong-learning Expo and Yeonsu Carbon Neutrality Declaration

The 2021 International Conference on Learning Cities (ICLC) Global Citizen Lifelong-learning Expo was held on October 29th~30th, 2021 at the Songdo Convensia, Yeonsu District, Incheon, Ro Korea as a side event of the 5th UNESCO Learning Cities International Conference, hosted by the UNESCO Lifelong Learning Center.

As the opening event of the Expo, Yeonsu-gu held a ceremony to declare as a carbon-neutral city, taking the first step towards 2050 carbon neutrality in Incheon. Mr. Doug Watkins, Chief Executive of the EAAFP Secretariat, and other guests of different stakeholders, including government agencies, companies, residents, students, international organizations, attended the ceremony and stated a commitment to practice in their respective fields to achieve the 2050 carbon neutrality goal.

The climate change environmental video, reading of the declaration, and climate change response performance was conducted during the ceremony. In addition to that, Mr. Ko Nam-seok, Governer of the host city Yeonsu District announced the city’s ambition of realizing carbon neutrality with the vision of ‘Let’s all practice carbon neutrality for future survival together.’

Meanwhile, the Yeonsu District Environmental Conservation Division hosted a “Response to Climate Change Day” event to raise awareness of climate change. The EAAFP Secretariat’s assistants also joined the Expo to operate a promotional booth with Green Climate Fund (GCF) and Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) to promote its role and achievement as a conservation organization.

The EAAFP Secretariat’s booth introduced the East Asian-Australasian Flyway Partnership and the secretariat to the visitors. Also, it aimed to link between Migratory Waterbirds and Climate Change, Raise Awareness on the Impact of Climate Change and Biodiversity Loss. The EAAFP Secretariat’s key species factsheets were also attractive to local visitors.

Another highlight of the EAAFP’s booth operation was a collaboration with GCF IEU. In the EAAFP’s booth, the Independent Evaluation Units of GCF’s leaflets were also displayed together with the EAAFP’s leaflets as a part of the EAAFP and GCF IEU’s collaborations. Later on the Expo, the Yeonsu-gu Environmental Conservation Division gave special thanks to the EAAFP Secretariat and the Chief Executive, Mr. Doug Watkins’ for their participation and support.
