In addition to supporting our Partners in the countries of the Flyway, EAAFP is also involved in a number of broader global and regional initiatives, along with Partners and colleagues, to conserve migratory waterbirds and their habitats. The Arctic Migratory Bird Initiative (AMBI) of our Partner Conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF), aims at conserving Arctic-breeding birds as they migrate through the world’s flyways. The East Asian – Australasian Flyway is the most threatened of these Flyways and EAAFP Secretariat has worked closely with Partners in Russia and USA, as well as BirdLife International and colleagues in Canada and other Arctic Council member and observer countries to develop an AMBI work plan to 2016. Caring for Coasts is a new initiative of EAAFP Partner Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) focused on coastal wetland restoration. There are many needs and opportunities in the EAAF region for coastal wetland restoration and it is hoped EAAFP Partners will be involved in promoting and supporting this initiative.
